April 2013
Volume III, Issue VII
KEYWORDS:
Hello everyone, we
are approaching "count down" time, which means we should all be in
the same mode in preparing for our big recital. Your complete cooperation is
greatly needed from now until recital night, so please follow all instructions
given you and be as diligent and pleasant as possible. I will be home recuperating from surgery and
will not be around during the month of April and most of May, so please follow
Ms. Wilda's guidance and make things as easy for her as possible. She has been
given a multitude of duties and things to do leading up to the recital. I AM
STILL ASKING YOU THE READ THE ENTIRE NEWSLETTER FOR ALL INFORMATION AND
ANNOUNCEMENTS, especially until recital time. Please do not hesitate to ask
questions early, if you feel you need further explanations of anything you read
in this newsletter. DO NOT ASK FOR ANY SPECIAL TREATMENT, JUST FOLLOW THE RULES
AND MEET YOUR DEADLINES. I hope to see you all the latter part of May.

ADS
CONTEST
You should be already
soliciting for ads by this time. Please start turning in your ads as soon as
possible. If you are a contest participant in the ads contest, please make
all of your reports to Ms. Wilda ONLY. All others can turn their ads in to the
office. Winners will receive free dance lessons (not special classes): full year,
half year, and one-third year free dance lessons. Ads should be written legibly
and easy for the printer to read. Wilda will not have time to re-write ads
turned in on pieces of paper and half written, so please prepare them to be
readable and understandable. Be sure to use your ads price list you received to
solicit for the right ads amounts. The business card size ads have three
different price levels: personal - $15.00; social/church/professionals -
$20.00; and business - $30.00. Some
people get those mixed up. There are extra copies of the price list, and
previous recital booklets available in
the office. I think all students
deserve some praise and compliments for their hard work, so please let's have
at least one ad for every student. I
can't believe that there is a student who no one wants to congratulate. Show
them someone cares.
DANCE
FEES
Look at the
delinquent lists every week. If you have
not paid your fees, please pay them on time. While I am away, I need to be able
to pay my staff on time, and I can only do that if you pay your dance fees. If
you have passed the 15th of the month, you should add your late fee, otherwise
your fees are going to be delinquent
until you are paid up including late fees. No student will be able to
take pictures if all fees, dance and recital, are not paid up to date by the
photo shoot. Delinquent students (any
student on the delinquent list) will not receive their costumes until after the
photo shoot. Payment for the month
of June should be paid by the morning of the recital.
PHOTO
SHOOT
The photo shoot is
scheduled for Tuesday, May 7, 2013, starting at 5:30 p.m. Individual
pictures will be taken from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. All class group pictures will be
taken at 7:00 p.m., so please be present and on time. Teachers will tell you
which costume your child should wear for the class picture. Any individual pictures still left to be taken
will be shot at the close of the group pictures. Our t-shirts this year will be
issued with the class group pictures on them, so please make sure your child
will not be left out. There will not be any special group shots for people
being late for the class pictures. The photographer has asked for cash
payments only (come prepared), with change (bring some small bills also). She
has also asked that only the teachers be present in the room while pictures are
being taken, so as to keep down the disruption, which will help speed up the
whole process. Also only the group
pictures will be ready for the recital program booklet. Parents will
have to use a photo they already have for their program ads. Individual
pictures will be ready in mid-July. Try to fill out your forms ahead of
time, and be ready when your child is ready to take pictures. Make sure to look
at the class group schedule so that your child will be dressed when it is time
for their class pictures. If your
child is on the delinquent list, you should not be at the photo shoot. Make
sure your fees are all paid up. CHECK BOTH
LISTS.
KIDDIES
KORNER
Aniah Mandley is a
2nd grade student at the University Academy, and she will be receiving
"First Communion" at St. Monica Catholic Church in Kansas City,
Missouri on Sunday, April 14, 2013. We all congratulate Aniah on her spiritual
journey. Aniah's birthday is April 4th. This will be a time and event to
remember forever. GOD BLESS YOU REAL GOOD, ANIAH!
SCHOLARSHIP
RAFFLE
Scholarship raffle
tickets will be dispersed on the first week of May, and all students will be
responsible for 20 tickets. PLEASE PAY
FOR THESE TICKETS IN ADVANCE. No one
can return tickets, you should put your name on 20 tickets and pay for them, if
you don't sell them. This is the only project that replenishes the scholarship
fund, so do your best. The raffle will be held at the recital. No tickets will
be received without money. Make sure all tickets are filled out at the time
you turn them in.
FYI
Easter is the last
studio holiday closing for this year. We will have classes during Memorial
weekend, so please do not plan on not being present. This is the weekend we
have our full day rehearsal, and we need all students present for a full day's
rehearsal. It will not be the student's fault if they are not there, it will be
the parent's fault. This is an important rehearsal, so be as cooperative as possible.
The date of the two big recital rehearsals, the date and place for the
awards program, and the class schedule for June 29th thru July 31st will be in
the next newsletter.
END-OF-YEAR
EVENT
Our end-of-the-year
event will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Power Play Entertainment
Center, 13110 W. 62nd Terrace, Shawnee, Kansas, 913-268-7200. Our package
consists of the one-time all-you-can-eat buffet, choice of 4 attractions of
your choice (which you choose when you enter the Center), and 40 points
toward machine games. The choices of
attractions you may select include: Cosmic Bowling, Go-Karts, Laser Tag, Laser
Maze, Bumper Cars, Ropes Course, and Tilt-a-Whirl. You may enjoy these 4 attractions as often as
you like. Any other selections you choose will need to be paid for by you. There is a Kids Zone for children 3 years and
under where the little ones can play as
long as they wish for $5.00.
We will have lunch at
the buffet from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. in the Field House Room, right off from the
buffet. We will have access to a screen
and a microphone, so we will be able to play a video or movie using a laptop during
our meal time. Our event starts at 10:00 a.m. until you decide to leave. Our
package is valued at $43.00, but our fee is $25.00 per person (adults
and children). If someone wants to
attend but do not want to play games, but just eat lunch, the fee is $6.99 for
adults, and $4.96 for children (ages 4 to 12) at the buffet. All children 3 and
under may eat free with a paying parent. We need several lists started. One for
all dance students who will be attending, a list of the one-parent who will be
attending for half price, a guest list of additional children and adults
attending, and a list of anyone only wanting to eat lunch and not play games.
DO NOT GET ON A PAYING LIST WITHOUT PAYING FIRST. The deadline for all lists is Saturday, June
1. 2013. This is an indoor event, so weather conditions will be of no factor.
Invite your friends and/or family members and look forward to a fun day for
$25.00.

dance quote
"When are you ready for
pointe?" For one thing, your
teacher has to determine that you're at the right stage of physical
development. Priscilla Nathan-Murphy, principal of Houston Ballet's Ben
Stevenson Academy, feels it is unsafe to start pointe before age 11 or 12.
Before then, your metatarsal structure is too weak to maintain the weight of
your body and handle the stress of the pointe shoes. Age isn't the only factor.
In order to achieve the appropriate amount of strength needed to stand on your
toes, you'll need a few years of training and a commitment to several ballet
classes a week. Dancers need killer core strength to lift up and out of their
pointe shoes. Teachers also look for proper alignment, which requires a certain
amount of natural flexibility in the foot and ankle. Only when all of these
factors are in place, and your teacher gives you the go-ahead, will you
be ready for the wonderful world of pointe shoes." - Dance Teacher Magazine
