HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!

This is the beginning of a brand new year, and I am hoping everyone is looking at everything with a positive attitude. In regards to the studio, I want everyone to get along together harmoniously and with a good spirit and enjoy what God has given us. We have much to be thankful for.

I personally, have much to be thankful for, and it was because of all of you. I was absolutely and thoroughly surprised at the "surprise 80th Birthday Celebration" that you, the studio, gave me December 23rd at my church. It really was a wonderful  affair.  I have to give special props to Angelynn Howell, Natalie Barge, Stephanie Smith, and Wilda Oliver for all their hard work. I am still wondering how all of you managed to keep your mouths' closed during the planning period. I was caught completely by surprise, and I was so happy to see everyone when the lights went on. Thank you so much for your kindness and giving spirit. The food was delicious and the beautiful silver dancer necklace is really a precious gift. I will always feel good when I wear it and think of all of you.  Angelynn Howell was responsible for all the good food.  Wilda was responsible for deceiving me in such a manner as to get me back to my own church without me getting suspicious. This was a surprise joyfully received. I can never thank you enough for your thoughtfulness.

Now, we have to start on our long road toward the recital. I hope you will all keep good attendance and work hard at your routines to we will have a good recital. PLEASE READ YOUR NEWSLETTER FOR ALL ANNOUNCEMENTS each month regarding the recital and other information.

Again, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

June Neal Key
Executive Artistic Director

RECITAL FEES

We only had about six students in the January order, so hopefully by the time you get this they will be ordered also. Regarding recital fees, PLEASE PAY YOUR RECITAL FEE BY THE END OF JANUARY.  They were due in November.  I do not want to have a recital list up after January.

FYI

Please report to the office any new home addresses, phone numbers or cell phone numbers.  I tried making some phone calls to students' parents that were no longer in service or they could not be reached by that number. Also, I sent out emails that have been discontinued or no longer in working order.  We need to be able to reach you when something important comes up where we have to reach you.

Remember the deadline for the newsletter is the last week of each month.

NAC COMPETITIONS

The NAC competitions are coming up, and we are looking for everyone's support to cheer on the participants to victory. We have five new little girls entering the acrobatic competition this year and they need our support. The first competition will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2013. There will be postings of all the winners in the hallway area. We wish them all good luck in their efforts.

TRASH BAG PROJECT

You did not do a very good job with the  trash bag project.  The cost of 260 bag orders was $1,807.00.  We have collected $2,290.00, so far.  Your profit at this point is $483.00.  That will not pay much of anything for the entire school, but it will give those who participated credit for what they turned in. Each fundraiser project was supposed to profit at least $2,000.00.  Everyone did not participate, which I think is shameful.  I certainly hope the next and last project will be much better.  If you did not participate in the first fundraiser project, you need to do more than $100.00 worth of selling to make up for it.  The same people who participated in the first fundraiser, will participate again also.  I will not let them take the brunt of everyone else's negligence.  You can only get full credit if you turned in at least $100.00 for each fundraiser.  The money is used for these things: the Christmas party, recital participant trophies, recital t-shirts, full day rehearsal lunch meal, and the after school activity. We can not do much with $483.00 when we have 45 students. I am asking you to do a better job the next time, because you will be letting down your child, and others children also.  We have had three wonderful afterschool activities where all of our children had a full day of fun. PLEASE DO NOT LET THEM DOWN THIS YEAR. Its up to you.

DANCE QUOTE

"If a dancer struggles to pick up a step, I have them practice it alone without music so they can better hear the details of their footwork and build confidence in their ability. While holding one's center is essential in almost all styles, tappers apply the concept differently than classical dancers. In ballet, you use your center to lift up, while tap dancing is grounded and low to the floor, more like modern dance. Those comparisons apply it to their own bodies."   Zada Cheeks, tap teacher with the
Chicago Human Rhythm Project .
