September-October 2012 Newsletter

September/October, 2012
Volume III, Issue I

KEYWORDS:

WELCOME BACK ALL OLD AND NEW STUDENTS!  This is a combined September and October newsletter. I hope everyone is ready to buckle down and dance like you have never danced before, because I am looking forward to a very good year.  It is exciting just to see all of you, and I hope you all had a safe and fun summer. We will very soon be starting fundraising projects and all students are to participate. The funds from these projects will pay for a number of things for all our children, so it is mandatory for everyone to take part. We welcome Micah "Brie" Adams, our new ballet and modern teacher for the Thursday class. The teachers are excited about their new class work for this year, and look forward to working with their students again.

Once again, I welcome you back for another great year. May God bless you all, and let's make this the greatest year yet.

June Neal Key
Executive Artistic Director

FYI

The newsletter is your main source of information, so please read the whole newsletter each month so that you will not be left out from knowing any information you should be receiving from the studio. All announcements, upcoming activities and events will be noted in the newsletter. Also, we have a Kiddie's Corner section in the newsletter for any information you wish to share about your child. This can be school, church, or community information your child might be participating in. A number of our students do other things outside the studio that they are proud of.  If your child made all "A's" on their grade card, be sure to let us know before the deadline.  All information not turned in on time will go in the next newsletter. The deadline is the last week of each month. The newsletter will be distributed on the first Week of each month.

TRASH BAG PROJECT

Our first fundraising project will be a trash bag sale. Our trash bag project leader is Ms. Yolanda Smith, who is one of our office assistants. She will be passing out information and forms to everyone regarding the trash bag sale. Please follow the instructions and sell the quota asked of you. Pay attention to the deadline dates given you and make your reports on time. There is a minimum that everyone has to sell. Let's make this a successful project.

COSTUME AND RECITAL FEES

REMINDER: Costume fees are due by October 30th, and recital fees are due by November 30th. Please start paying these fees, or making payments on them. The costume order will be mailed December 20th. I will be leaving town December 23rd for a week. Any costumes that have to be ordered in January,  have to be ordered before January 15th, and your cost will be more. All costume discounts end in December, so your costumes will cost more, plus you will have to pay all taxes and handling charges.  Also, you stand the chance of not getting your costumes back in time for our photo shoot for class pictures we put in our program booklet. PLEASE GET YOUR MONEY IN ON TIME to avoid being left out.

OBSERVATION DAY

The first week of November will be the first observation day for parents to sit in the classroom and watch their children dance in their classes.  The week will start on
Saturday, November 3rd through November 9th. Parents are encouraged to come on observation days to see how well your child/children are learning and actively participate in their classes. We have one other observation week, which will be during the first week of February. In the meantime, you should encourage your children to be attentive to the their teachers, and use good manners and behavior at all time in order to receive the best instruction during class.  Please mark your calendars now.

KIDDIE'S CORNER

Yahzmine Jackson, a freshman at Hickman Mills, is a very active student. She plays the flute in the band, and is now the drum major. She will be leading her band in the Lincoln University and Veteran's Day parades. She also made the school's dance team, and is hoping to be named captain.  In addition, she will be running for Student Council President in the next few months. We congratulate Yahzmine in all her accomplishments.

We also have parents of students who are doing great things in the community. You will note posted on the wall an article about Merlon Ragland, the mother of Jaliah Norton. Not only does Merlon own and run a child-care center called " Caterpillars to Butterflies", but she is always looking for other ways she can make a difference in her community to help other people. If you sit and talk to her for two minutes, you will start hearing her talk about yet another project where she can help make someone else's life better. It is good just to know that there is a person out there who cares, and is looking for a better way for others. We congratulate this young mother.

DANCE QUOTE

"Whether or not you are convinced of the benefits for young dancers, competition is a growing reality of dance training. Competition teaches kids to be professional. They learn to be on time, to groom themselves,  learn that their behavior during competition is a direct reflection on their studio, they connect and make friends with others, and they learn to win with humility and lose with grace. Many have pointed out, one thing competitions do is increase performance opportunity for students." --

T-SHIRT ORDERS

If you were on the recital t-shirt order list for a t-shirt and you have not yet paid for your t-shirt, you should pay for your t-shirts so the order can be finalized.
